The one day we have is today. I follow the ODAT or One Day at a Time principle. If there is something that is not working out at the moment, whether it is in my control or not, I can deal with some part of it in the short term or in the next 24 hours. What I can act on today I will, what I can’t do today I’ll plan when I can. Today, I can move in the direction of acceptance, and what I can change about the perspective I have, I can do immediately.
Just for today, I will try to live through this day only, and not take my whole life problem [or the world’s] at once. I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I felt I had to keep it up for a lifetime.quote from Just For Today – The Blue Book
So one day at a time builds into a lifetime of days between birth and death, the full circle of life. It is in the moment though, that we express our true selves, sometimes gaining, sometimes losing in the extremes and routines of life circumstances. Today, I will love. Today, I will survive. Today, I will thrive. Just for today, since tomorrow carries its own troubles and promise, yesterday, its own regrets and memories. All have a part, all make me who I am today: grateful and content. Today, that is my prayer for you as well. Best, Mary
