life like the ocean continues its movement, never stopping the cyclical pattern
As people present in this time of history around the world, we are facing new challenges in medical, social, and political forays. This is a time to try out new brain cells, reach for alternative emotional responses, and engage in evolved actions rather than fall back into primal patterns in nature. What I see right now is a road that leads to evolution, where we evolve as human beings to a higher communal place, or devolution, where humanity devolves into an animal nature where the soul and brain connection is misfiring at a rate that may destroy itself in the process.
Let’s put a positive note on this. Humanity has much more hope and potential for change than any other living beings on the planet. And, contrasting crises happening all at once bring forth scientific expansion in breakthroughs such as vaccines and treatments. These solutions the best of us come up with will prevent and/or keep humans alive through the worst part of diseases.
Not only that, but the enthusiasm for space exploration has also played out in successful reach by NASA and private companies like SpaceX transporting humans to work and to possibly live and even to escape to places beyond earth as we use up this planet of natural resources and do overall damage to one another & to the land around and between us. Will we learn that expansion can occur in a way that helps and benefits all, even as our life expectancy increases due to knowledge, experimentation as a necessity? I hope so.
The celebrated introspective captivating author from the sixties, Ram Das, who created a book from visions, Be Here Now, passed away early 2020. Time seems to stand still more often now in these tumultuous times. Grateful for the times we have lived through; the sixties were a time of enlightenment. To be present in the moment is one of the gifts of having a pet like a dog who just loves to be with you in the moment, whether walking, playing or sleeping. The beauty and freedom of being in the moment is one of the happiest places for a human to be. It takes some doing for me, a reminder that all is temporary and that all is well.
The continuing sage of history spreads a blanket of sadness on our present predicament. Mother Earth has regurgitated a virus to get the attention of those who would destroy her first, as environmental changes have had devastating consequences to our physical world. The occupants of earth will create a way to survive, all of them, even viruses. Humankind will become better from a distance, for this, but meanwhile, surprises in grief & suffering surmount the observer who can’t be unaffected by this.
Continuing on, staying close to those you love, even if at physical distance, is an opportunity for stretching humanity. The outrage and horror can be misdirected to blame and flail powerlessly at what I cannot control. And then, a voice on the phone calms me, a family member jolts me into the present moment, and all is well.
Find calm in the chaos. Don’t let the chaos distract from the calm within, I’ve been reminded it’s in there, buried under disguises of anxiety, fear, grief, anger, rage. When those disguises become me, the words that pour out are me too. Released now, all the words can come. I wish the same for you. Be well, be safe, be true, be whole.
